Yamaha Pianos im Gespräch mit Freddy Kempf
Freddy Kempf, one of the world's most successful pianists, discusses Sinatra, Disney, Schumann and Rachmaninoff! He describes performing around the world on Yamaha's CFX and explains the tonal qualities of the CFX and why the piano is so special.
Born in London in 1977, Freddy made his concert debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 8. He joined them again for his conducting debut in 2011 to play/direct the ensemble in a complete cycle of Beethoven’s piano concertos, giving eleven performances in many of the UK’s most significant venues.
This season includes return engagements with the RPO for new play/direct programmes, and engagements with BBC Scottish Symphony, Swedish Chamber, Tasmanian Symphony and further performances of his Beethoven Piano Concerti cycle with the St Petersburg Philharmonia.
Recent engagements have included concerts with Vancouver Symphony, Australian Chamber Orchestra, European Union Chamber Orchestra and debuts with Sydney Symphony, Nice Philharmonic and Helsinki Philharmonic. Last season also saw major UK tours with the St Petersburg Symphony and the Czech Philharmonic, and appearances with the CBSO and Prague Symphony.
In past seasons Freddy has worked with conductors of the highest calibre, including Jiří Bělohlávek, Andrew Litton, Alan Buribayev and Barry Wordsworth. In the 2013-14 season he will be working with Martyn Brabbins and Thomas Dausgaard.
As a recitalist, Freddy has appeared at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire, the Berlin Konzerthaus, Milan’s Conservatorio’s Sala Verdi, the Sociedad Filharmónica Bilbao, and London’s Cadogan Hall. He has recently given recitals at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, where he returns this season, and the City Hall in Hong Kong.
Freddy records exclusively for BIS Records, his most recent releases being a recording of Gershwin’s works for piano and orchestra with the Bergen Philharmonic and a solo recital disc of Schumann.
