Yamaha Artists Arfon Owen and Kirsty Abbotts Tutor at the 46th Wessex Band Summer School

Between the 27th July and 1st August, the Wessex Band Summer School took place in Sturminster Newton, Dorset. Attracting musicians of all ages from all over the country, the week long course offers players the opportunity to work with a team of internationally renowned tutors and conductors which included Yamaha artists Arfon Owen and Kirsty Abbotts.

An extremely popular course with over 230 musicians in attendance, the course includes a brass band, wind band and training band and was a mix of full band rehearsals, sectionals and masterclasses culminating with a concert held at the stunning Exchange Theatre in Sturminster Newton on the last day.

Amongst the tutoring staff this year were Yamaha artists Arfon Owen (tenor horn) and Kirsty Abbotts (cornet) who were on hand during the week working with students on technique and musicianship. They were also there to give out some very special Yamaha goody bags to the children who were in the training band.
