Jean-Efflam Bavouzet restates Yamaha CF preference for latest Haydn Piano Concerto CD

Jean-Efflam Bavouzet is acknowledged of one of the world's finest interpreters of Haydn's piano works and has been described as ‘Haydn's greatest living contemporary keyboard exponent’. Jean-Efflam has so far recorded five volumes of Haydn's Sonatas in his ongoing series and has been lauded for his intelligent musicianship, crisp technique, and sense of joy in the music.

His most recent concerto recording was made in partnership with conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy and The Manchester Camerata. Jean-Efflam once again selected a Yamaha piano for this latest CD, which has already received the coveted accolade of Editors Choice in the leading international Gramophone magazine.

Haydn composed twelve keyboard concertos, and this CD showcases the 3rd, 4th and 11th, regarded as the best known works.

Jean-Efflam Bavouzet describes why he selects Yamaha CF pianos, “I have a long-standing relationship with the company and used a Yamaha for my very first recording – also Haydn. I was first impressed after hearing the sound that the great Sviatoslav Richter got from playing a Yamaha. In a way I am also paying homage to him with my Yamaha.

When Chandos agreed to go ahead with the Haydn project I immediately thought, I have to do this on Yamaha. When you study the music of the Haydn Sonatas there is almost no indication of dynamics, you have to really dig deep into the music to make it come alive. The sound of the Yamaha is similar; it's like having a sheet of pure white paper on which you can put your own sound. That's why I choose Yamaha.”
